Peavey SP 2G Specifications

Intended primarily for professional use in sound reinforcement, the Peavey SP 2G represents a redesign of the SP 2 speaker system, with physical design and audio specifications that meet the needs of local and touring live-sound setups. The SP 2G's trapezoid-shaped case makes it suitable for creating large speaker arrays. Its Sound Guard circuitry protects high-frequency drivers from the adverse effects of sound pressure levels that otherwise would exceed equipment tolerances.

Physical Specifications

The Peavey SP 2G measures 33.50 inches high by 21.50 inches wide by 22.75 inches deep and weighs 83 pounds. Encased in fabric-covered 0.75-inch plywood, it features a protective metal grille over its woofer. Polymer corners guard the casework from damage in transit and handling. It includes four input jacks, two for full range and one each for bi-amped low or high frequencies.

Speaker Specifications

The SP 2G's two-way speaker design uses one 15-inch Black Widow woofer with a Kevlar-impregnated cone and one 22XT compression driver loaded with a CH 941 constant directivity horn, linked by a crossover network. The compression driver includes a patented Sound Guard high-frequency protection circuit that regulates the signal level to the 22XT to prevent it from overheating.

Operation Modes

You can connect the SP 2G's inputs in three distinct modes. Two bi-amped channels allow you to run the input only through either the low- or high-frequency components of the speaker. The full-range channel uses both drivers simultaneously. All three sets of inputs rely on 0.25-inch phone jacks for connections.

Bi-Amped Low Channel

The bi-amped low channel operates at 350 watts continuous with a peak of 1400 watts at a standard sound pressure level of 100 dB. This channel can handle a maximum sound pressure of 125 dB continuous with a peak at 131 dB. The nominal impedance is 8 Ohms.

Bi-Amp High Channel

The bi-amped high channel operates at 40 watts continuous with a peak of 160 watts at a standard sound pressure level of 100 dB. Peavey rates this channel's maximum sound pressure level at 122 dB continuous with a peak of 128 dB. The nominal impedance is 8 ohms.

Full-Range Channel

The Full Range channel operates at 300 watts continuous with a peak of 1200 watts at a standard sound pressure level of 100 dB. This channel can handle a maximum sound pressure of 124 dB continuous with a peak of 128 dB. The nominal impedance is 8 Ohm, with a minimum of 5.8 Ohm required to drive the speaker.
