How to Use Cannon Downriggers

Cannon downriggers allow you to troll deep water while fishing. The company sells both manual crank and electric downriggers, but either will get the lure down to where the fish are. A downrigger has a cable attached to a 6 to 12 pound ball weight that pulls the lure down. When a fish strikes the lure, the fishing line pops off the line release clip and you can fight the fish without having to worry about a heavy weight.

Instructions

1. Attach the downrigger ball to the clip at the end of the downrigger cord.

2. Attach the line release clip to the downrigger cable.

3. Put the boat in gear and move forward slowly. Drop the line with the lure or bait into the water and let out line until it reaches the distance that you want it to trail behind the boat.

4. Insert the line between the jaws on the line release clip and pinch the jaws closed.

5. Let out the downrigger cable slowly, until it reaches the depth you want to troll at.

6. Insert the fishing rod into the rod holder on the downrigger, and reel up the line until the pole has a slight bend.

Tips & Warnings

• Don't send the downrigger ball down quickly, or the fishing line could tangle in the downrigger cable.

• Keep the boat in forward motion at all times, to avoid tangling the lines.
