Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the pool's filtration system so that the pressure will be lowered in the system and you won't unnecessarily lose water when repairing the issue.

    • 2

Disconnect all male connections that are above ground near the pool's pump using the adjustable wrench if needed. You may also need to do some digging to expose other pipe fittings near the pump. Remove any debris or other buildup on the threads on the connections.

    • 3

Wrap the threads on the male fittings tightly with a few wraps of Teflon tape. This will ensure a tight seal when the connections are replaced.

    • 4

Remove the pump lid gasket from the lid if it looks damaged, as this is another common source of air intake for the system. Gently replace the gasket by fitting the new one into the recession where the gasket fits, This should be able to be done with your fingers, but in some cases, these are screwed into place with screws.

    • 5

Ensure that the drain plug on the pump is securely fit. If it is not, completely remove it, clean the threads if they contain residue or debris, wrap the threads with Teflon tape, then tightly refit the plug.

    • 6

Turn the filtration system back on, and wait for an hour or so before evaluating your repair to ensure that any trapped air is eliminated from the system.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the above does not resolve the issue, the leak in the filtration system is most likely below the concrete in the pool. If this is the case, it is recommended that you hire a pool professional to complete the job.

  • Since you will be working in and around water, be sure that there are no exposed electrical connections in the area, including extensions cords, to prevent electrical shock.
