How to Patch Carpeting
Deciding to buy new carpet because of a small stain or a small hole can be quite impractical and expensive. Hiring a professional to repair damaged carpeting will only be costly, because you can do the task in a matter of minutes. You can extend the life of your carpet by patching damaged areas caused by holes, burns and stains. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Scraps of carpet that match your existing carpet
- Utility knife
- Adhesive spreader
- Carpet glue
- Vacuum

Cut out the entire damaged area on your floor carpet using a utility knife. Try doing this with just one cut on each side of the damaged area. Avoid cutting through the carpet pad.

Use the cut out piece as a pattern in cutting the new carpet patch, which you will use to replace the damaged area.

Use adhesive spreader to spread the carpet glue on the exposed carpet pad and on the back of the newly cut piece of carpet patch.

Press the patch firmly into the cut hole and smooth the carpet with your fingertips.

Leave the glue to dry for about six hours, then vacuum the patched area.

Tips & Warnings
If you cut the carpet pad accident, fasten it down with a piece of duct tape.
