How to Find Out If a Person Is Registered As a Sex Offender Nationally
If you suspect that someone you know is a registered sex offender, a bit of research with determine whether that assumption is true. The Department of Justice keeps a national database of all registered sex offenders. If a person is registered as an offender in any state, you'll be able find out.

Gather basic information about the person. Having his full name, including his middle name or initial, will help you locate the person in the database. Knowing his approximate whereabouts will help narrow the results.

Visit the Department of Justice National Sex Offender website (see Resources). Click "I Agree" to the terms and conditions to enter the site.

Enter the person's first and last name. If you know his location, click "Advanced" to enter his city, state or Zip code. Click "Search."

Scan the listings. The engine is likely to return multiple results, unless the sex offender has a unique name. Match the person's middle name with the listed middle name or initial on the results page, if possible.

Click on possible matches. View the photo of the offender to determine whether it is of the person in question. If not, use your browser's "back" button to continue to browse through the search results until you confirm or eliminate your suspicion.
