Homemade Diffusers
Make homemade diffusers with a favorite essential oil scent and let the wicking action of diffuser reeds continuously provide a room with just the right amount of fragrance. Reed diffusers are found in many home stores and home style catalogs but most of the commercial diffusers are made with synthetic fragrance rather than with natural essential oils. By making the scent at home, you can ensure that the reed diffuser contains only the ingredients you've chosen.
Things You'll Need
- Essential oil
- Premixed reed diffuser oil base/fragrance-grade dipropylene glycol
- Perfumer's alcohol, if needed
- Four diffuser reeds
- Glass bottle, 4 oz. size

Chose an essential oil fragrance to use in the homemade diffuser.

Pour 1 oz. of the chosen essential oil and 2-1/4 oz. of either premixed reed diffuser oil base or fragrance-grade dipropylene glycol into a 4-oz. glass bottle. Cover the top of the bottle and shake to mix.

Look closely at the diffuser liquid and decide whether the liquid seems too thick to properly wick up the reeds and, if so, add 1/4 oz. of perfumer's alcohol and stir to mix. Thin again with another 1/4 oz. of the perfumer's alcohol if necessary.

Place the reeds into the diffuser liquid mixture.

Place the reed diffuser in or near the chosen room's main traffic pattern, as the air circulation created by people moving past the diffuser helps disburse the fragrance throughout the room.
