How to Remove Wallpaper From Dywall
Wallpaper is an easy way to change the appearance of a room. However, it does require a little more work to remove it when a change is needed. Depending on the methods used when the wallpaper was applied, it may come off easily or it may require a bit more work. Strippable wallpaper is the easiest kind of wallpaper to remove. However, older wallpaper or wallpaper installed in a bathroom is likely to require the more labor intensive removal method. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Putty knife
- Wallpaper scorer
- Wallpaper removing solution
- Paint scrapper
- Warm water
- Sponge

Strippable Paper

Fill a bucket with warm water.

Use a clean sponge to moisten the wallpaper beginning at a seam of the wallpaper.

Pry up the edge of the wallpaper with a small putty knife and peel the wallpaper off the wall. Continue to peel away the wallpaper until it starts to resist.

Apply more water to the wallpaper with a sponge and continue to lift and peel off the wallpaper.

Use a wallpaper scoring tool to make puncture holes in the wallpaper over a 6-foot section of wallpaper.

Mix the wallpaper removing solution according to the package directions and spread onto the scored wallpaper with a paint roller.

Let the treated wallpaper sit for 15 minutes and then begin to scrap off the wallpaper with a large paint spatula. Remove as much wallpaper as possible. If necessary, reapply the removing solution and scrape again. Repeat this process along the length of the wall until all of the wallpaper is removed.

Wash the walls with soapy water and a sponge to remove the wallpaper paste residue.
