How to Create a Google Email Account

With a Google email account, you can send and receive messages from your friends and family.

Google email, or Gmail, is a different approach to email. It allows you to keep all of your messages in one place, or "archived," and has a search function so you can locate any email you wish. Also, messages are stored as conversations, which allows you to more easily find what you need. Setting up a Google email account is free and can be done in less than five minutes.

Instructions

1. Go to the Gmail site listed in Resources and choose "Create an Account" in the lower right-hand corner of the screen.

2. Fill in your name and then choose a username. Click "Check Availability" to see if that user name is available. If it isn't, Gmail will give you some user names that you might choose to use instead.

3. Complete the registration form. You will need to supply a password, a secret question and answer, your location, your date of birth and a second email address you can use for recovery.

4. Click that you accept the terms of use and choose "Create" to create your account.
