Seaglass is often collected when walking along the beach. Seaglass is glass that has been washed and smoothed by the sand and water of the ocean. This gives seaglass its smooth, frosted surface. You can easily drill into your special find, allowing you to use the seaglass for many different applications. With a power drill, a bit and water to keep the bit cool, you can create get a clean hole.

Things You'll Need

  • Sea glass
  • Marker
  • Bowl
  • Water
  • Diamond bit
  • Dremel tool

Instructions

    • 1

      Use a marker to make a mark on the front and back of the seaglass where you want to make the hole.

      Place the glass into a bowl and fill it with water until the glass is submerged. One of the marks on the glass should be facing up.

      Place the tip of the diamond bit onto the top mark on the glass. The dremel tool should be held completely vertical and just the bit should be in the water.

      Start the drill and allow it to enter the seaglass. Don't drill through the glass, but only halfway between the top and the bottom mark.

      Pull the bit out of the seaglass and turn the glass over so the bottom mark is now on top.

      Place the bit against the mark and drill through the glass until you reach the middle of the glass and connect the holes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Drill slowly to avoid chipping or breaking the seaglass.

  • Make sure you keep the electrical element and cord of the dremel tool out of the water to avoid electrocution.
