Beat the heat!

So winter is finally gone and the family is looking forward to fun in the sun: enjoying the warmer days in a crystal clear swimming pool. Your above-ground pool needs to be opened and made ready for the first warm days that are just around the corner. With just a couple days' work your above ground pool can be clean and inviting when the pool parties begin. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the debris and water that has accumulated on the pool cover. A hose can be used to siphon the water off the cover if you do not have access to a small sump pump. The pool's leaf skimmer net will help remove the leaves and sticks.

    • 2

Take the cover off the pool. Clean the cover and lay it out in the sun to dry. When it is dry, fold the cover and put it in a storage place for the summer.

    • 3

Fill the pool with water until it is past the bottom of the skimmer. Use the leaf skimmer net to remove any leaves or sticks that have fallen into the pool.

    • 4

Connect the hose from the skimmer to the pump. Connect the hose between the pump and the filter and hook the second hose from the filter to the inflow port on the side of the pool. Place clamps on all the hose connections to hold them securely in place.

    • 5

Prime the pump by putting water into it to improve the seal and start the water flowing. Turn the pump on after priming and check for leaks in the hoses and the connections. With the pump running, vacuum the pool to remove any sand, dirt or algae.

    • 6

Take a water sample to your local pool professional to have it tested. This is the best way to determine proper chemicals to use and the correct sequence to balance the water chemistry. Add the recommended chemicals and self test the PH with a test kit that can be purchased at your pool supply store.

    • 7

Connect the ladders, handrails and all other necessary equipment and after making sure all it is in good working order.
