If you're purchasing a new mattress but aren't ready to get rid of your old one, store it for later use. The mattress may come in handy when you're creating a guest bedroom or if your child needs a larger bed. Things You'll Need
- Breathable plastic mattress bag
- Mattress-size cardboard box
- Packing tape

Place the mattress into a durable, breathable plastic mattress bag, which will protect it from dust, moisture, bugs and other pests.

Press down on the mattress to remove any air from within the bag. Seal the open end of the bag with packing tape.

Set the bagged mattress into a large cardboard box to further protect it. Fill in any spaces between the mattress and box with packing peanuts to create a secure fit. Seal the box edges with more duct tape.

Store the mattress in a cool, dry location, such as a closet. Place the mattress upright against a wall.
