Build your own shoe shine chair.

Shoe shine chairs are designed to keep the customer comfortably in position while the shoe shiner buffs the customer's dress shoes to a fine shine. Although not as common as they once were, shoe shine chairs can still be seen in some areas of cities and in some shoe repair and service stores. If you are starting your own shoe shine business, you can make your own shoe shine chair and save money.

Things You'll Need

  • Wooden chair
  • Four 3-inch by 6-inch wood boards
  • Hammer
  • Nails
  • Large square wood board
  • 4 Cinder blocks
  • Four 6-inch by 2-inch wood boards
  • 3-foot by 1 1/2-foot wood board

Instructions

    • 1

Turn your wooden chair upside down. Hammer a 3-inch by 6-inch board underneath the foot of each leg of the wooden chair using a hammer and nails. The longer part of each board should be facing forwards on the front legs and backwards on the back legs of the chair.

    • 2

Place a board that is as wide and as long as the reach of the legs of the chair. Hammer the support boards that you attached to the bottom of the chair legs onto the board using a hammer and nails.

    • 3

Place the board and chair on top of 5 cinder blocks. One cinder block should be under the middle of the board and the other 4 should be at each corner of the board. These cinder blocks will raise the height of the chair so that it can be used as a shoe shine chair.

    • 4

Hammer four 6-inch long by 2-inch wide pieces of wood underneath a 3-foot by 1 1/2-foot board. These will be the legs of the stool. Hammer each 6-inch long leg onto each corner of the board.

    • 5

Place the foot stool in front of the shoe shine chair.
