How to Replace S10 Speakers
By Nichole Liandi
The Chevrolet S10 pickup truck has been a staple of the light truck market for many years. The S10 usually comes equipped with a stereo and two pairs of speakers--one pair in the dash and the other pair in the back side panels of the cab. If your existing speakers aren't working, due to failure or age, you can replace them yourself, saving a trip to the dealer or car audio shop.
Dash Speakers
Step 1
Loosen and remove two Phillips screws from the top of the speaker grilles on the dashboard. When the screws are removed, pull the grilles toward the back of the truck to remove them.
Step 2
Loosen and remove the 9/32-inch bolts on the corners of the speakers. Pull the speakers out of the dash and unplug the speaker wires connected to the terminals in the rear of the speakers.
Step 3
Plug the speaker wires into the new speakers. Place the speakers in the openings and secure them in place with the bolts you removed earlier.
Step 4
Place the grilles back onto the dashboard and secure them in place with the Phillips screws you removed earlier.
Rear speakers
Step 1
Loosen and remove two Phillips screws from the bottom of each of the rear side panels behind the front seats.
Step 2
Pry up the scuff panels along the bottom side of the doors with a panel tool and remove. Loosen and remove the Torx T47 bolt holding the seat belt hangers on each side of the cab.
Step 3
Pry around the edges of the rear side panels until they are loose. Pull the panels out far enough to access the speakers.
Step 4
Loosen and remove the 9/32-inch bolts on the corners of the speakers. Pull the speakers out of the dash and unplug the speaker wires connected to the terminals in the rear of the speakers.
Step 5
Plug the speaker wires into the new speakers. Place the speakers in the openings and secure them in place with the bolts you removed earlier. Replace the panels and reverse the disassembly steps.
