How do I Write an Essay on the Most Outstanding Student?
As a teacher, you are sometimes faced with the task of having to write an essay rather than grade one. Teachers often have to choose students for certain awards based on outstanding performance. Whether it's for a speech or for publication in the school or local newspaper, you should take time to craft a strong essay, which will honor your student's excellence.

Talk to students, teachers, family and friends

Talk to the outstanding student, his family, friends and other teachers about the meaning of the award or acknowledgment. Ask them about the challenges the student may have faced and overcome to receive his recognition.

List the students best qualities and how they've helped him become outstanding. Take the time to reflect upon his performance in the classroom and the community.

Develop an outline. Include an introduction, which will explain who the student is and why he has been named most outstanding for this occasion. Explain how he achieved the award, and any challenges he may have faced. Conclude with how he may set an example for others.

Write the first draft of your essay, expanding upon the notes in your outline. Allow yourself to be humorous or add personal reflection. There is a reason you are writing this essay and not another teacher. You want the essay to be in your voice.

Read your essay aloud to make sure it sounds natural. Take notes on the paper as you read, marking places with mistakes or things that need to be revised.

Share your essay with a fellow teacher and ask for suggestions, then revise again as necessary. If the award is not a surprise, it's also a good idea to have the student and/or her parents read the essay to see if there is anything they want to add or change.
