How to Put the Belt on a Numark PT-01

The Numark PT01 is a belt-drive turntable, unlike many other turntables that use a drive system known as direct drive. Belt-driven turntables require maintenance. The belt needs to be replaced once every few years. If you notice the turntable has trouble spinning before then, consider replacing the belt to see whether that fixes the problem. You can easily access the Numark's internal components, including the motor and the belt, by removing the back cover.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Replacement belt

    • 1

Remove the record from the turntable and place it in its protective sleeve. Turn the power switch to "Off."

    • 2

Take the PT01 to a table or workbench. Turn it over to expose the bottom cover. Push the battery cover toward the handle to remove it from the bottom cover. Remove the six "D" batteries.

    • 3

Remove the six Phillips screws from the Numark's back cover. Lift the back cover up to remove it. You'll now have access to the internal components, including the turntable's belt.

    • 4

Slide the end of the belt away from the motor shaft; slide the other end away from the drive pulley. Set the old belt aside or discard it.

    • 5

Loop one end of the new belt over the motor shaft. Loop the other end over the drive pulley.

    • 6

Set the back cover back in its place. Insert and tighten the six Phillips screws.

    • 7

Set the batteries back into their mount. Reattach the battery cover and slide it away from the Numark's handle to cover the batteries.
