Grinding Noises in Maytag Dishwashers

      Turn off and unplug the dishwasher from power.

      Open the dishwasher and pull out the dishwasher racks. Look for objects in the bottom of the dishwasher or near the pump in the rear that may be causing problems. Remove any foreign objects.

      Pull out the dishwasher spray arm from the bottom and lift out the filter. Clean the filter in soapy water and rinse well. Put the filter back into the dishwasher and reset the spray arm as well.

      Close the dishwasher and run a normal cycle. If the grinding noise persists, wait for the completion of two or three more cycles, as small hard objects like seeds or nuts may be in there. The grinding noise will stop once the item is completely ground.

      Contact Maytag if the sound persists after several more cycles.
