How to Compare Different Places of Worship
You're new in town and desire to attend worship services, but how do you know which place of worship is right for you? Or perhaps you've done some soul-searching and you're ready to explore religions other than the one you've known all your life. No matter what your denomination -- or even if you have none at all -- there are several ways for inquiring minds to compare places of worship.

Which church is right for you? Plan your visit to a church, temple, mosque or other house of worship by asking yourself several questions before you go. Is your purpose to learn about religion, and would you like to do so by speaking with congregants and faith leaders, or do want to simply observe? Determine what you hope to gain from the service, and what the benchmarks are for a successful visit.

Word of mouth is invaluable, so ask your family, friends and others about their houses of worship. In addition to getting the basics such as times and days of service, protocol and expectations, delve deeper by asking about recent sermons and the beliefs and feelings of the houses of worship. Do they talk about heaven and hell? What do they believe the purpose in life is, or the afterlife?

Research the Internet for specifics on houses of worship. Many temples, mosques, churches and other worship centers have websites that answer any questions you might have. For example, the First Baptist Church in Dallas offers profiles of the pastor and executive staff, along with a "What We Believe" section, while the Islamic Center of Charlotte devotes space to God's attributes and believers' attitudes. It also includes information on prophets and the Pillars of Islam.
