How to Use Pavers for a Lawn Edge
When you wish to edge a lawn to create a neat border, brick pavers can serve beautifully. Fitting together side to side or end to end, pavers define a lawn and make an edge that you can easily maintain. If you place the pavers deep enough to create a mowing strip, you can run the lawn mower over them, eliminating the need to trim with a weed whacker. Use pavers to finish an attractive landscape. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need

- Pavers
- Brick hammer
- Chisel

Instructions

1
Measure the height of the pavers that you wish to have visible over the surface of the soil, and add 2 inches to this measurement. Measure the width of the pavers, also.
-
2
Dig a trench along the lawn that is the adjusted depth measurement, by the width measurement. Make the trench level along the entire length of the trench by checking with a level.
-
-
3
Add 2 inches of sand along the trench, spreading the sand in an even layer. Tamp the sand down with a tamper along the trench, and then check the sand with the level. Adjust the sand layer until it appears level.
-
4
Place the pavers into the trench, fitting them in end to end or side to side snugly along the trench. As you add the pavers, check every two or three with the level to make sure the edging remains flat. Adjust the layer of sand beneath the pavers, if necessary.
-
5
If necessary, break a paver into smaller pieces to fit into the trench. Determine the point where you need to divide the paver by measuring, and then hold the point of the chisel at this spot. Tap the chisel lightly with a brick hammer at the point where you wish to break the paver.
-
6
After you finish installing the pavers along the trench, pound each paver gently with a rubber mallet to seat each one firmly in the sand.
