Weaving Directions
Knowing how to weave properly will allow you to create woven craft projects that are professional looking and durable. A correctly woven project will have stitches that are tight and even, without many gaps or holes in the weaving. If you find that your weaving is loose or uneven, there are guidelines you can follow that will correct your improper weaving techniques and enable you to successfully master the traditional art of weaving.

1
Cut a piece of cardboard to measure 8 inches square.
-
2
Cut sixteen 1/2-inch slits into two opposing sides, arranging the slits 1/2-inch apart.
-
-
3
Wrap a piece of string around two slits that are exactly opposite from each other, and tie it tightly into a loop. The string should be taut and hooked into the slits. Repeat this process with each set of opposing slits. This will create 16 taut strings.
-
4
Thread a yarn needle with an 18-inch piece of yarn.
-
5
Weave the yarn over and under the strings on one side of the cardboard form until you reach the end.
-
6
Push the woven yarn to the top of the cardboard form.
-
7
Weave the yarn back towards the other side, weaving the yarn over and under the strings as before. Make sure to weave the yarn over and under the opposite strings as the first round.
-
8
Push the yarn up towards the top of the form, as before. Continue weaving the yarn in this manner until the woven fabric is as large as you require.
