How do I Repair a Philips Ultrasound Transducer?

How do I Repair a Philips Ultrasound Transducer? thumbnail
Ultrasound transducers are used for many things, including monitoring pregnancies.

As with any device, the more it is used and the older it is, it will eventually begin to work more slowly or even fail. Ultrasound transducers are often found in hospital settings, and they wear down over time. The last thing you want is a broken transducer when trying to perform an ultrasound exam. Philips produces many medical devices, including ultrasound transducers, which can be repaired, depending on the type of damage.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the ultrasound machine before you install the new transducer. This is extremely important, as it can result in irreversible damage to the machine if you do not.

    • 2

Remove the broken transducer from the main computer on the ultrasound machine. Depending on what model you have, the transducer port will be in the front of the machine or the back. There are usually no screws, so to remove the transducer, all you need to do is grasp the transducer plug by hand and pull it out of the port.

    • 3

Coil up the old transducer and place it in a box. If the unit is under warranty, the repair company may request that you send the old transducer back.

    • 4

Align the new transducer connector with the probe port and carefully push into place. Some ultrasound machines will make an audible "click" when you push the transducer into place.

    • 5

Power on the machine and test the transducer to ensure that you installed it correctly.
