Getting Your GED in Texas
Individuals who do not have a high school or General Educational Development diploma often find obtaining employment difficult. In fact, people with a college degree sometimes have trouble getting a job. Acquiring your GED is the first step towards getting a college degree.

- GED prep course
- ID
- Social security number
- Proof of residence

Visit your local community college, or the adult learning center, to find out about GED prep courses being offered.

Go to the local bookstore and find a GED practice book. Take the tests in your free time, and focus on the areas which you are having trouble with.

Make sure that you fulfill the requirements for the exam. In order to take the Texas GED, you need to be at least 18 years of age, not a high school graduate, and a resident of Texas. Furthermore, you must be withdrawn from high school for at least six months.

Register to take the exam at any official testing center in Texas. Bring your ID, your social security number, and proof of your residency with you.

Write the GED exam. There are five sections to the GED. They are writing, social studies, science, reading and mathematics. In order to pass the examination, you must score a total of 410 on each section. Most of the exam is multiple choice. However, you have to write an essay for the writing section.

Tips & Warnings
You can use a calculator for Part I of the math section, but not for Part II.
