How to Power a UV Lamp to Work

Ultraviolet lamps provide light and heat to dedicated areas. UV lamps have the advantages of providing a large radius of light for offices and rooms, and heat for hothouses or plant nurseries. The UV lamps need a 115-volt connection as a general rule. Luckily, this is easily obtained through a 115v converter strip plugged into a standard 120v wall socket. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 120-volt wall socket

Instructions

    • 1

Plug all UV lamp cord connections into a 115v-strip converter. These look like surge protector strips and are typically used with computers and sensitive household electronics.

    • 2

Switch the surge protector switch to "On" on the converter strip.

    • 3

Plug the converter strip into a 120v wall socket. Flip on the UV lamp to test the connection.

Tips & Warnings

  • Handheld UV lamps that have rechargeable batteries are plugged into wall sockets directly to charge the batteries.

  • Always work with "cold" plugs when installing the UV bulbs and connecting the cords. This means keeping the converter strip unplugged until the UV lamps have been plugged into the strip itself.
