Slipcovers are handy accessories for a sofa because they protect the fabric of your furniture. Using a slipcover also provides an inexpensive means of changing your sofa's look. You can change slipcovers to match various color schemes or simply to suit your mood. Covering your sofa with a slipcover is a simple process that should only take you a few minutes to complete. Instructions

    • 1

      Drape the slipcover over the top of the sofa, working from front to back.

      Extend the arms of the slipcover over the sofa's arms.

      Tuck in excess fabric on the inside of each arm of the sofa. Tuck this fabric into the crack of the sofa between the seat cushion and the inner arms of the sofa.

      Grasp the slipcover in the middle of the seat cushion area and pull any excess toward the inner arms on either side. Tuck the excess fabric in again.

      Grasp the slip cover along the backrest and pull excess fabric downward. Tuck this fabric in where the backrest meets the seat cushion.

      Tie any ties along the skirt of the slip cover to tighten the cover around the base of the sofa.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remove any throw pillows before installing a slip cover.

  • Use a wooden spatula to tuck material into the sofa's creases.

  • Some slipcovers come in two pieces. The first piece is installed just like the steps above. You insert your seat cushions into the second piece and zip it up before returning the cushions to the sofa.
