How to Make a Roly Poly Car
Kid's can learn basic engineering techniques and develop their creativity by building a simple roly poly car. You can set up the craft in a manner that allows the kids the opportunity to figure out how to assemble the car with the given materials, or you can guide them through a step-by-step car building project. Roly poly cars can be created from objects easily found around the house, including cardboard boxes, paper plates and paper towel or wrapping paper tubes.
Things You'll Need

1
Draw four circles using a pencil on the sides of the box near the bottom -- two on either side where you want the wheels to be located. Circles should be slightly larger than the diameter of the paper tubes.
-
2
Cut out the circles using the scissors. Insert the paper tubes into the holes so the ends of the tubes stick out of both sides of the box by about 2 inches. Cut slits in the ends of the tubes about every 1/4 of an inch. Bend the slitted ends of the tubes back towards the box to create a square flower look on the ends of the tubes.

Apply craft glue to the "petals" at the end of one tube. Center a plate with the end of the tube and press the petals to the plate to secure them together. Repeat this process with the other three wheels. Make sure not to get any glue on the tube near the box which would prevent the tube from rotating.

4
Allow the glue to dry for a few hours. Decorate and color the car with the markers. Draw the windshield and doors. Decorate the wheels by drawing hubcaps.
