How to Measure a Headboard for a Full Bedframe
A bed frame may consist of wood or metal pieces serving to hold a mattress and box spring. At the head of the bed attached to the bed frame, a headboard adds distinctive decor to a bedroom. If a headboard is not a part of the bed frame, you may wish to add a separate one to complement your bedroom set. Examine the headboard to find the screw holes at the base of the headboard. The placement of these screw holes is important because they must fit onto the bed frame precisely.

Measure the distance between the screw holes on the headboard with a tape measure and write down this measurement. Measure the distance between the screws on the bed frame and write this down as well.

Compare the distance between the screw holes on the headboard with the screws on the bed frame to see if the measurements are the same.

Measure the distance between the screws on the bed frame with the top of the mattress and write this measurement down. Place the end of the tape measure at a screw hole on the headboard and extend the tape measure straight up the distance you measured between the screw and the top of the mattress. This shows you the point on the headboard where the mattress will come. Before purchasing the headboard, make sure this mattress height is acceptable with the style of the headboard.

A standard bed frame height is between 25 and 36 inches. A full-size mattress is 54 inches wide and 75 inches long.
