Bashan Scooters Troubleshooting

Troubleshoot your scooter's problems.

Bashan scooters use a four-stroke engine to supply the power required for driving around city streets. These scooters sometimes suffer from engine damage. The most common problems -- an engine that won't start, stalls or lacks power -- use the same troubleshooting procedures.

Things You'll Need

• Wrench
• Fuel
• Drain pan
• Socket wrench
• Large bowl
• Carburetor cleaner

Instructions

1. Remove the gas cap of the Bashan scooter and set it aside. Examine the cap to ensure that it is undamaged. Drain the gas tank if the gas has been sitting in the tank for 60 days or longer. Remove the gas tank using a wrench and turn it upside down. Drain the gas into a drain pan.

2. Clean the carburetor. Remove the carburetor using a socket wrench and soak it in a large bowl of carburetor cleaner. Allow the carburetor to soak for about 30 minutes and remove it from the cleaner. Allow it to air dry and replace it. Replace the carburetor. This removes any rust or debris.

3. Remove the spark plugs using a socket wrench. Discard the spark plugs and replace them with new spark plugs.

4. Check the kill switch. If it is set to "Off" the Bashan will not turn on. Push the switch so that it is set to "On."

5. Examine the air filter. A clogged or wet filter hampers the engine and may cause the Bashan to stop running. Replace a clogged air filter.

6. Lubricate the chain with WD-40.
