Find a primary school using Internet tools.

A primary school is a public or private educational institution for students up to the fifth, sixth or eighth grade level. The U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) maintains statistical information about every accredited public and private primary school in the United States. The NCES also offers an online search tool you can use to find primary schools within a specified geographical area.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the NCES's online search tool. Select the state you want to find a primary school in from the "State" drop-down menu. Enter the city or zip code in the appropriate text box and select the distance you want to use for your search from the "Distance" drop-down menu.

    • 2

Click the "Search" button to display a list of schools that match your search criteria. Click on the individual primary school for detailed information about that school. Displayed results include contact information for the school, basic characteristics of the school, enrollment by ethnicity and enrollment by grade.

    • 3

Contact individual primary schools from the list to get additional information about the school not included in the NCES summary information.
