How to Change a Weed Trimmer's Line
Most weed trimmers, also known as string trimmers, contain a trimmer line (string) that is wrapped around a spool. The trimmer line is an essential component to correct operation of the weed trimmer, as it is the device that comes into contact with the weed and ultimately cuts it. It is not uncommon for the trimming line to snap or break, especially if you use the machine regularly. But with the proper line and installation techniques, you can change your weed trimmer's trimming line. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Remove the spool that contains the string line. The spool is located under the head of the weed trimmer. The exact method for removing the spool will vary depending on your weed trimmer model. You will probably need to compress the sides (tabs) of the spool retainer, which will unlock the spool and allow you to pull the spool away from the machine. To access the line, remove the spool retainer's cover, which may be fixed to the spool with screws.

2
Cut off any string that may still be on your spool. If you want to replace the entire string, cut the old string away or unwind it from the spool. If your string broke during use, you will need to cut away any of the string that may still be wound around the spool before installing new string.

3
Cut two 9-foot pieces of monofilament string line.
-
4
Place one of the pieces of string into the spool's anchor hole, which is located on the top of the spool. When it is secure in the anchor hole, slowly wind the spool counterclockwise until all but six inches of the string remain unwound.
-
5
Place the second piece of string into the spool's lower anchor hole, located on the bottom of the spool. Just like you did with the first string, wind the spool counterclockwise until all but six inches of the second string remain unwound.
-
6
Align the new string and slot with the eyelets in the string head. They need to be perfectly aligned so that you can thread the strings into the eyelets.
-
7
Pull the strings through the string head so that the string releases from the spool's slots.
-
8
Replace the spool retainer's cover and fit the spool back into the slot where you previously removed it. Make sure that the tabs that hold the spool lock into place.
