How to Remove a Truck Box Liner

The bed of your truck can collect a lot of dings and scratches in the paint, and one way to protect the finish is to install a truck box liner. These plastic truck box liners provide an extra barrier of protection from the items you place in your bed. The problem is that sometimes water can get underneath the liner and cause rust to form. To prevent this from happening, you should occasionally remove the truck box liner from the bed and clean out any water or debris from under the liner. You just need hand tools and the help of an assistant.

Open the tailgate on the truck using the tailgate handle. Unbolt or remove any of the screws holding the truck box liner to the tailgate with the Phillips screwdriver or the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. The number and type of fasteners holding the liner to the bed and the tailgate will vary by make and model of truck. Lift the liner off the tailgate.

Look inside the truck box liner. Try to find any bolts or screws holding the liner in place. Remove any fasteners with the Phillips screwdriver or a 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Most bed liners aren't held in place by anything, so there may not be any bolts present.

Position your assistant on one side of the bed, and you on the other. Lift the truck box liner simultaneously on both sides, then push the sides of the liner toward the middle of the bed. Walk the truck box liner out toward the tailgate, then set the liner down behind the truck.
