The Best Way to Dust Hardwood Floors
There are many reasons why having hardwood floors in your home is better than carpeting. Not only do wood floors increase the value of your home, but you have less dust, dander and allergens floating through the air. The best way to dust hardwood floors is with a dust mop. Dust mops have a soft, cloth bottom that wipes the wood floors clean. Unlike typical brooms that can scratch the wood, dust mops remove surface debris without harming the hardwood floors. Dusting
-
1
Grasp the handle of a clean, dry dust mop with both hands. Start at the end of the room farthest away from the entrance.
-
2
Set the dust mop head on the hardwood floors. Wipe in a back-and-forth motion without lifting the dust mop off the hardwood floors. Continue wiping the floors while working your way toward the entrance.

3
Repeat the process once every day or every other day. If your dust mop has a detachable cloth, wash it once a week to keep it clean and dust-free.
General Care
-
4
Wipe spills off the hardwood floors as soon as possible with paper towels. This will keep the spills from staining, warping or otherwise damaging the wood floors.
-
5
Clean your hardwood floors with a mixture of 1 gallon water and 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar. Dampen a clean sponge in the mixture and wipe the wood floors clean. Dry the hardwood floors with a soft towel. Do not allow the wood to become overly saturated with moisture.
-
6
Refrain from using ammonia -- or cleaners containing ammonia -- and oil soaps on the hardwood floors. These items will dull the floors' finish.
