How to Hide Away Motorized Car Monitors

Hiding a monitor for a motorized vehicle is a straightforward project that only requires the use of common household tools and does not require special skills or knowledge of the task. Hiding a monitor for your motorized vehicle requires you to use an overhead flip-down monitor bracket that is easily hidden away when flipped in the up position. When correctly installed, you will be able to entertain your backseat passengers during car rides and then hide the monitor from view when not in use.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Place the lip of the flat head screwdriver under the base of the overhead dome light and pry the dome light from its positioning on the car's ceiling. This reveals a nook, a hole, in the ceiling where the dome light used to be. Unplug the wire harness from the dome light and tuck the wires up into the ceiling hole.

    • 2

Hold the mounting bracket of the overhead flip-down monitor mount over the ceiling hole while making sure the bracket lies flat against the ceiling. Use a carpenters knife to cut the headliner from the car's ceiling surrounding the bracket. Remove the bracket and discard the headliner. Remove the wire harness from the ceiling hole and put the end of the wire harness through the center hole of the bracket. Slide the bracket up the wires until it lies flat against the ceiling.

    • 3

Use a drill with a 10/24 machine tap drill bit to drill a hole in each corner of the bracket. Continue drilling through the bracket into the ceiling. The holes created by the machine tap drill bit are threaded and work well with screws.

    • 4

Insert the mounting screws through the bracket and tighten into the ceiling with a Phillips screwdriver. Plug the square plug of the wire harness into the square power port of the monitor. Position the monitor on the bracket and slide it back until you hear it lock into place. Fold the monitor up to the ceiling to hide it.
