How to Install Vinyl Gutter Guards
In the fall, leaves often clog gutters, blocking them so rainwater cannot flow freely through them. This can end up causing water damage to the outer surface of your home. Gutter guards were designed to catch leaves and other debris while still allowing water to enter the gutter and flow away from your home. Installing vinyl gutter guards is an easy DIY project that you can complete in an afternoon. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clean all the leaves and other debris out of your gutters. Use your hands or a small brush to sweep away the leaves and larger debris. Rinse the gutter with a garden hose to remove the smaller debris.
-
2
Climb a ladder to the gutter, carrying a strip of vinyl gutter guard. Lift the roofing tiles just enough to slide the thin, flat edge of the gutter guard underneath them.
-
-
3
Bend the vinyl gutter guard into a "U" shape. Place the lip of the gutter guard into the lip of your gutter and release the gutter guard. The gutter guard will now be firmly in place.
-
4
Screw the gutter guard to place with a 1/2-inch sheet metal screw. Begin in the center of the gutter. Place the tip of the screw through a mesh hole and against the lip of the gutter. Screw it down but do not over tighten. Place two more screws on either side of the center screw, approximately 2 inches from the edges of the gutter guard, and drill them through the guard and gutter.
-
5
Continue installing the gutter guards in the same way down the entire length of the gutter. Make sure the edges of the gutter guards are butted up tight to one another.
-
6
Measure the distance from the edge of the last gutter guard to the end of the gutter. Transfer this measurement to a gutter guard piece. Cut the gutter guard piece to the measurement using a tin snips. Install the short piece the same way you did the previous pieces.
