How to Make Bow Press Plans

Bow press plans are used as blueprints for building the device that will create archery shafts. Knowing how to construct bow shaft blueprints means ensuring you know exactly how bow shafts are made and what process is required. Bow presses include inner and outer rollers, rises and metal tubing. Combined these materials form a device for bending and shaping a bow in the comfort of your own home.

Instructions

1. List the tools you will need. Bow presses require a number of advanced tools for cutting, grinding and drilling metal and conjoining the pieces. A radial arm saw is required, among other tools, including: dual 3/4-inch by 7-inch steel cutoff wheels, a drill press using 3/16-inch and 1/2-inch drill bits, drilling lubrication, metal C-clamps and an adjustable wrench.

2. Outline a materials list. The materials list should include all of the materials needed to build the actual press. List all materials and their dimensions. For example, at least 60-inches of 1.5-inch, 11-gauge square metal tubing is needed. Three feet of 1/8-inch wire cable is also needed. Be specific with your list so users will know how many materials that they need and what type of materials.

3. Outline all directions and tips in the order they should be followed. Start your directions by telling builders how to cut and construct the metal bow press frame. Continue by telling builders how to assemble wheels and chords for bow shaft shaping. Take as many steps as necessary to ensure the directions are safe and clear. A full set of bow press plans may require 18 steps to guide a builder through a start-to-finish process.

4. Consult an expert. Take your plans to other bow press makers to ensure your plans are clear, concise, actionable, logical and safe. Make revisions as necessary. Once finished with revisions, include warnings and safety tips at the bottom of your plans before openly distributing.
