How to Make a Music Video Lesson Plan

Designing a lesson plan requires you to address various learning styles, provide ample time to teach the lesson and ensure the lesson is appropriate for the students. A music video lesson plan can encompass the same aspects of a regular lesson plan integrated with singing, visuals and music. Instructions

    • 1

Brainstorm your lesson plan. Include what content, questions, concerns, time, tone and level of complexity the topic will encompass. Decide how you will develop steps, problems and questions for students to answer in your music video. Explain the background information to help the student understand the subject, and be sure to adjust the pace of the lesson adding pauses or repetition as necessary. Complex lessons are not ideal for music videos as may require more time and practice for students to understand.

    • 2

Decide on the songs you will include into your music video. Choose popular songs that kids can understand and associate with. You will use the beat and instrumental versions of the songs and substitute the lyrics with your lesson plan. Break down your lesson plan into steps, with each new step using a new song.

    • 3

Write the lyrics for each step. Include key phrases, vocabulary, steps, objectives and necessary standards within the lyrics. Add repetition and props to help appeal to the different learning styles and catchphrases to help students remember important aspects of the lesson.

    • 4

Use the music-editing software to edit the songs. Most music-editing software will allow you to play the song without the vocal track. Select the option to remove the vocal track for each selected song. Copy the music onto a CD-RW.

    • 5

Place the copied CD into a stereo or CD player. Start recording the video with the music playing. Use your lyrics to sing the lesson plan. Add visual props to help teach the lesson as well. Record each step separately to minimize mistakes.

    • 6

Take the video footage from your camera and transfer it onto your computer. Most video cameras allow you to transfer footage through a memory card or CD. Using the video-editing software, add visual effects, such as transitions, words and written lyrics to help students follow along. Add a title to your music video lesson.

Tips & Warnings

  • The music video lesson plan should last duration of the class period. Use multiple songs to fill the time.
