Finishing high school in Michigan requires meeting certain standards and earning credits in specific courses set forth by Michigan's Department of Education. You must also take the Michigan Merit Exam, which is a collection of tests that deal with college entrance, jobs skills and familiarity with academic subjects. Graduating from high school in Michigan can be beneficial to your life, your education and your career.

      Pass all of the classes needed to graduate. The Michigan Merit Curriculum is a set of requirements that students must meet in order to finish their high school education. The requirements say that students have to pass specific academic and skill-based classes. Graduates must have completed four language arts or English credits, four math credits, three science credits and three social science credits. Graduates must also have taken two foreign language credits, one arts credit and one health or physical education credit. Students must also take one course or learning experience via an online format.

      Take the Michigan Merit Exam. This exam is administered in the 11th grade. It contains three separate parts. Students must take the American College Test, a jobs skills test and a test of subject assessments. Students with severe disabilities are offered an alternate test. The Michigan Merit Exam is available every March.
