How to Install a Bed Extender in a Sport Trac

Installing a bed extender in your Sport Trac can be a great way to haul a larger load. A bed extender allows you to gain more space on the end of your truck bed by using the normal hatch as added area. The bed extender forms a wall around the end of the hatch when it is lying flat. The best part of a bed extender is that it is easily removable, so it will only be on your truck when you need it.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the hatch of your bed and lay it flat.

    • 2

Use your template to mark holes for drilling on the inside of your cab on the area just inside your rear left and right taillights.

    • 3

Drill the holes through the plastic liner and into the frame as marked by the template.

    • 4

Secure the mounting brackets with the provided screws and washers.

    • 5

Construct your bed extender. The width of the device will be adjustable so you should make it so that it fits snugly to the width of your bed from one mounting bracket to the other.

    • 6

Slide your constructed bed extender into the mounting brackets on each side of the bed. The extender will either lock into place, or it will need to be secured with the included clamps or tie downs in the kit.

    • 7

Firmly test that your bed extender is stable before you put it to use.
