How to Set Up a Quantum Audio Amps Car System

Quantum makes several different car audio amplifiers, including mono, 2 channel and 4 channel amplifiers. To set up an entire system off Quantum amps, do so with a 4 channel amp to run your fronts and rears, and a mono amp dedicated to your subs. Find a good location to mount your amps and spend some time to figure out the best way to run the cables.

Things You'll Need

  • Power cable with inline fuse
  • RCA cables
  • Ground wire
  • Speaker wire

Instructions

    • 1

      Disconnect your car battery.

    • 2

Remove your deck from the dash to expose the wires and connections in the back. Refer to your stereo's owners manual for proper removal.

    • 3

Run the power cable from the amp to the car's battery. You may have to drill a hole into the fire wall on the driver's side to feed the cable to the engine department. Connect the power cable to the positive post on your battery by sliding the ring at the end of the cable over the post.

    • 4

Connect the other end of the power cable to the distribution block. Slide the end of the cable with bare wire exposed into the block's input, and twist down the screw to hold it into place.

    • 5

Connect smaller-gauge power cables from the distribution block's output to the amplifier's power input.

    • 6

Run the RCA cables from the amp to the back of the deck. If possible, try to run the RCA cables on the right side of the vehicle, as far from the power cable you can get them. The power cable can cause distortion in the signal. Plug the RCA cables into the outputs on the back of the deck: one set for fronts, one set for the rears, and another set for the subwoofer output that will connect to the mono amp. Consider marking the cables so you don't get them crossed. Match the red plug with the right channel and white plug with the left channel.

    • 7

Plug the other ends of the RCA cables into the amps. The cables attached to the front outputs on your deck go into the 4 channel amp's front input; the rear cables go into the 4 channel amp's rear input; and the subwoofer cable plugs into the mono amp's input.

    • 8

Remove any door panels or rear decks that hide the front and rear speakers.

    • 9

Connect speaker wire to the speaker outputs on the 4 channel amp by twisting the bare wire at the end and sliding it into the speaker jack and twisting down the screw to hold the wire in place. You will have front right, front left, rear right and rear left outputs on the amp. Be sure to run the speaker wire from the amp to the correct location.

    • 10

Connect the other end of the speaker wire to the positive and negative leads on the speaker. Car audio speakers are all different, so refer to your owners manual for proper speaker installation.

    • 11

Run speaker wire from the mono amp to the subwoofer. Depending on how many subwoofers you are trying to run and the configuration, refer to the subwoofer's owners manual for the correct wiring diagram.

    • 12

Run ground wire from each amp's ground connection to the distribution block. Ground the distribution block by running a wire from the ground on the block to a nearby bolt. Loosen the bolt and wrap the wire around it, making sure you have contact with bare wire and metal. Tighten down the bolt to hold the wire into place.

    • 13

Replace the deck and any other parts you removed, and connect your car battery.
