1
Sketch out ideas for your Halo character on paper first. Use reference photos to get a feel for the design language of the various races. Humanity lean towards angular armor and tactile fatigues. The Covenant Empire utilizes angular armor and will likely use a minimum of clothing under the armor. The Flood have large pustules and tentacles coming out of different areas.

2
Double click the Maya icon. If you have not set up Maya to automatically start a new project, go to "File" and click on "New Project". Find the "Polygon" button in the toolbar and select a basic rectangle.

3
Shape the polygon. Click and drag on the vertices to shape the polygon into rough limbs. Continue making polygons to flush out the skeleton until you have a very rough looking model.
-
4
Enhance model details. Click "Edit Mesh" and then select one of the mesh points. Pull and shape the polygon into an organic shape that resembles an actual person or alien. To create pustules on the Flood it may be easier to attach a globe polygon onto the alien's frame and then edit the mesh so that it blends with the other polygon.

5
Add armor. Create a separate polygon. The armor chest plate can be formed with a flat, thin square. Next, edit the mesh so that it conforms to the chest of the figure that you want to wear armor.

6
Add weapons. Rifles should begin with a rectangle. Follow by editing the mesh to put in the barrel, clip well and front sight.
