How to Cut a Frame for a Window Screen
If you want to enjoy the fresh outside air without worrying about bugs getting into your house, you can install window screens. The first step in installing one of these fixtures is to cut a frame for the window screen. The frame keeps the screen in place in the windowsill and also holds the screen mesh in place. Many hardware and other shops stock screen building kits, which contain everything you need to make one screen. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clean off the exterior of the window screen. Use a brush to remove any twigs or other buildup in the window frame. This will help you obtain an accurate measurement.
-
2
Measure the width and the height of the window with a measuring tape. Write these numbers down.
-
-
3
Measure the corner pieces that came with your window screen kit. Make a note of the lengths of both sides of the square portion of the corner piece. Write these down.
-
4
Double the measurement for the corner pieces, then subtract them from both the height and width of each side of the window to obtain the length that you need to cut. For example, if the window frame length was 25 inches, and the corner pieces are 1/2 inch, cut the frames 24 inches wide.
-
5
Mark out the height you need to cut on the aluminum frame. Use a hacksaw to cut the frame to length. Sand down the end of the frame with a piece of sandpaper. Repeat the process from the other side of the frame. Insert the corner pieces into each end of the cut frames.
-
6
Measure out the width on the two remaining pieces of frame. Cut these down to size with the hacksaw and sand down any rough edges.
-
7
Assemble the screen frame by inserting the two width pieces into the top and bottom of the frame and attaching them with the corner pieces. Place the screen in the window frame to ensure it is cut to the right dimensions. Make any adjustments, if needed.
