How to Make a Hammer Costume

Complete your MC Hammer costume with a gold chain.

A MC Hammer costume, amongst other things, should include bold colors and shiny fabrics. The rapper MC Hammer had hit records with his songs "U Can't Touch This" and "Too Legit to Quit." He is also known for his eccentric dance moves, exciting performances and eclectic wardrobe.

Things You'll Need

• Parachute pants
• Rhinestones
• Gold chain
• Clear costume glasses
• Loafers
• Short tuxedo jacket or military jacket
• Shoulder pads (optional)

Instructions

1. Purchase parachute pants from a local thrift store or online. Parachute pants are tapered at the waist, flare in the middle and are narrow at the bottom. MC Hammer's pants were often brightly colored, shiny or adorned with different jewels and patterns.

2. Lay the pants onto a flat surface and arrange the rhinestones in a line along the sides, bottom or top of the pants. Place the rhinestones along the edge of a ruler to ensure they are straight and glue using a hot glue gun.

3. Add a tuxedo-style jacket to your costume. MC Hammer's jackets were often short, exposing his waist. Have the jacket tailored to be shortened to waist length, but leave the sleeves wrist-length.

4. Glue rhinestones that match the color of those on the pants to the arms or shoulders of the jacket. Use a ruler to align your rhinestones in a straight line.

5. Put the pants and jacket on. Do not wear a shirt underneath the jacket and leave the jacket unbuttoned to expose your bare chest.

6. Place a gold chain around your neck that is long enough to hang below your chest.

7. Place your glasses so they reach your eyebrows at the top and the bridge of your nose on the bottom. Additionally, ensure that your glasses have a white or light-colored frame to match MC Hammer's look.

8. Put your loafers on. MC Hammer did not wear socks with his loafers so forgo the socks for this costume.

Tips & Warnings

• Choose very, bold parachute pants in color and design to make your costume more authentic.

• Your gold chain should be sparkly and include a large charm, like a dollar sign.
