How to Replace a Whirlpool Dishwasher Soap Dispenser

Andrew Todd

Whirlpool dishwashers have soap dispensers built directly into the doors. Before each load, dishwashing detergent must be inserted into the soap dispenser. The dispenser also must be closed so that the soap does not enter the washing cavity during the machine's pre-rinse cycle. At the appropriate time during the cycle, the dispenser lid automatically opens and the soap is incorporated into the dishwasher. When the dishwasher has gone through many cycles, it is not uncommon for the soap dispenser to stick shut and not release soap. When this happens, you must replace the soap dispenser so that dishes are properly washed.
