If your electric blanket suddenly stopped working, it might indicate a serious problem or be a simple fix. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Check all the cord connections for your electric blanket. Depending upon your model, you may have a cord that plugs into the wall and the foot of the blanket, and another cord at the top of the blanket that connects to the controller. If you notice any frayed cords or protruding wires, discontinue use of the blanket.

2
Undo bends or folds in the cords and ensure that the cords lie flat; crimped cords may short the blanket. If your electric blanket is the style that lies on top of the mattress like a pad, run the cord on the ground, not in between the mattress and the box springs.

3
Test your controller for stuck buttons or a shorted fuse. Toggle the button or cycle through each setting, depending upon your controller model, to turn the blanket on. Most controllers light up when turned on; don't worry if the controller is slightly warm to the touch, as manufacturers consider this normal.

Tips & Warnings
If you have a dual control electric blanket, ensure you aren't controlling the opposite side of the bed and over-heating your spouse. Fold the blanket gently in a few layers, turning it to the highest setting and waiting for 30 to 60 minutes. Place your hands between the folds to see if it produces heat.
Don't attempt to fix the controller or push protruding wires back into the blanket since this could cause a fire. Contact the manufacturer for a replacement or purchase a new electric blanket.
