Vacuum cleaners contain a thermal protection breaker that switches off the motor to avoid overheating. Overheating can begin to occur if the device becomes blocked. An overly full dust bag can also cause overheating. Blocking can be avoided by avoiding vacuuming large objects that are wider than the hose or cleaning attachment. If the thermal protection breaker trips on a vacuum cleaner, you can reset the breaker with relative ease.
Step 1
Unplug the vacuum cleaner if it suddenly stops working for no apparent reason. The breaker has been tripped.

Examine the parts, including the brush attachment, the hose and/or the cylinder. Remove any obstructions. Look for hair, large pieces of debris and other items like small pieces of clothing or toys. Empty the dirt container and clean any filters.
Step 3
Allow the vacuum cleaner to cool by remaining idle and switched off, with the plug removed from the wall outlet. Wait at least 30 minutes until the thermal cutoff breaker has reset itself. Some brands of vacuum may take longer to reset than others. In any case, remove the plug, or the breaker reset will not be completed. Try the vacuum again.
