How to Find Trends From the Runways
Each season, designers present their collections, giving a first glimpse of the types of clothes that will soon be found in stores. You may find yourself wondering how to take the exaggerated styles and translate them into wearable fashion. Determine the color story. As you look through the collection images, look for any repetition of color. Past examples of runway color trends include black and white, beige, bright colors and pastels. Note any patterns such as plaid, stripes or floral for trend possibilities.

Study the texture and material of the clothes. The weight and type of fabric indicates what types of garments you will see that season. Texture trends include sheers, metallics, tweeds, leather, faux fur and lace.

Define the silhouette and length. Runway fashions might be masculine or feminine in shape such as a tailored suit or a frilly gown. The clothes may accentuate a particular area such as cinched waists, puffed sleeves or slim pants.
