For those interested in attaining high school credentials outside of traditional schooling, the GED test is an ideal option. Test centers across the United States make access to the exam simple and convenient. Additionally, there is easily accessible online information to help test takers prepare. In order to be eligible to take the exam, participants must have been out of high school for at least six months. Some states also require that candidates be over 18 years of age.

      Go to the American Council on Education website. The ACE is the official site for GED programs and tests. Click on the "GED Testing Services" link on the left hand side.

      Click on the "GED Test Locations" link at the bottom of the page. Enter your zip code to determine where the nearest testing location is. This will allow you to register for a date and time to take the exam.

      Sample tests are also available on the ACE website. GED preparation is offered at most local community colleges and education centers. Click on the "GED Preparation" link on the ACE website for further information.
