Changing the belt on a snowmobile is a process every rider should know.

The snowmobile drive belt in your Yamaha RX1 is what connects the primary and secondary clutches. These clutches work in tandem to adjust the rotational power generated by the engine to the correct speed required at the track. The belt can become worn due to regular use, or be damaged by applying to much throttle at the wrong time. You can changing the belt out on the trail with no tools in a few steps.

      Unlatch and open the hood. Remove the side molding to access the clutches.

      Remove the belt guard and lock the parking brake.

      Reach down inside the secondary clutch and grab one of the ridges from behind with your hand.

      Press down on the helix with your other hand and push the belt down at the same time. The belt will hold the clutch sheath apart.

      Remove the belt from the primary clutch. Install the new belt in the reverse order you removed it. Be sure to install the new belt in the proper direction.
