How to Stain WeatherShield Pressure-treated Wood
WeatherShield pressure-treated wood can be stained in the same way as any other exterior-grade wood. The biggest issue when staining pressure-treated wood lies in the time that must be allowed to pass after the wood is installed before it can be stained. Because of the chemicals and moisture in the pressure-treated wood, you must wait at least 30 days before staining it. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clean the WeatherShield pressure-treated wood thoroughly with a wood degreaser. This is particularly important if you are using the wood in an area where you prepare food, such as on a porch or deck. Use a stiff broom to remove dirt and other debris from the surface of the wood. Allow the wood to dry for 24 hours before continuing.

2
Apply a coat of clear wood preservative to the WeatherShield pressure-treated wood with a good-quality paintbrush or paint roller to keep it from deteriorating in the elements. Allow the preservative to dry for six to eight hours before you walk on the wood. This clear preservative can be applied as soon as the pressure-treated wood is installed. It will help keep the wood in good condition during the waiting period required before you can stain it.

3
Wait 30 days before applying the stain to the WeatherShield pressure-treated wood.

4
Clean the surface of the WeatherShield pressure-treated wood again, and allow it to dry for 24 hours. Dirt, stains and other debris on the wood will interfere with the absorption of the wood stain.
-
5
Ensure that the WeatherShield pressure-treated wood is smooth. Sand it lightly with medium grit sandpaper if necessary. Try not to sand it very deeply, as the process will remove the clear preservative that you applied earlier.
-
6
Apply a coat of oil-based wood stain with a soft, lint-free cloth. Dip the cloth into the stain, and gently massage the stain into the WeatherShield pressure-treated wood. Allow the stain to rest on the wood for about 30 seconds, then wipe the excess away with another clean cloth. Discard the cloths as they become saturated. Continuing to use the cloths after they are saturated would redistribute the stain across the wood. Allow the stain to dry for about two hours before applying additional coats.
