Push the Whirlpool refrigerator away from the wall. Turn the knob on the water nozzle that the hose from the Whirlpool is connected to counterclockwise. Stop turning the knob once resistance is felt.

    • 2

Press the "Eject" button at the base of the Whirlpool refrigerator. Grip the cap at the end of the water filter with your hands. Pull the water filter out of the compartment. Twist the cap counter-clockwise to remove it from the filter.

    • 3

Remove the two rubber caps from the two tubes extruding from one end of the replacement water filter. Place these caps on the water filter that was just removed. Dispose of the water filter properly.

    • 4

Twist the cap clockwise onto the smooth end of the replacement water filter. Hold the replacement water filter with the extruded tubes facing away from you. Line up the extruded ridge that is on one side of the water filter with the groove on one side of the compartment in the refrigerator. Insert the water filter into the compartment. Continue pushing the water filter into the compartment until it clicks into position and cannot be pushed any further.

    • 5

Rotate the knob on the water valve clockwise until resistance is felt. Push the Whirlpool refrigerator back against the wall.

    • 6

Place the gallon jug beneath the spigot on the refrigerator. Press the tab behind the spigot for five seconds to expel the water that is in the reservoir inside the refrigerator. Release the tab after five seconds. Repeat this procedure for a two minutes. Empty the gallon jug in the kitchen sink as needed during the procedure. Let a day pass before dispensing water so that it can be chilled by the Whirlpool refrigerator's filtration system.
