How to Repair the Swingline Stapler 270
The 270 stapler model from Swingline is a heavy-duty electric unit used to staple large amounts of paper at one time. Instead of pressing down on the top of the unit to insert a staple into paper like you normally would, the Swingline 270 automatically staples your paper when you insert it into the appropriate place on the unit. You can repair the 270 model with a few methods, depending on exactly what type of problem you're having. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Turn over your Swingline 270 stapler. On the very bottom you will see a small wheel that you can rotate with your thumb or forefinger. Rotate this thumbwheel to release jammed paper from the unit. This manually lifts up the mechanism that drives staples into your paper, if that mechanism has jammed in the "down" position and has prevented you from releasing paper from the stapler.

2
Insert a sheet of paper into the mouth of your stapler until you hear it make the loud "thud" noise it makes when inserting staples into a piece of paper. Remove the paper. This process is called "cycling" the unit. Repeat this process (the manual recommends you do this 25 to 30 times) to free up any individual staples that have become jammed on the inside of your Swingline 270 stapler.

Unplug your Swingline 270 stapler from its wall outlet and remove the hard plastic cover on the top of the unit. This will reveal the inside, along with the staple cartridge. Press the staple cartridge release lever to remove the cartridge from its holster. Use your fingers, a pair of pliers or a similar device to manually remove any staples that were not cleared from the inside of the device using the "clearing" method in step 2.
