How to Sell Private Jets

If you have a private jet that has been used for personal or business use, the aircraft can be sold just like any other asset. Typically jets and other aircraft are sold with the assistance of a broker rather than by owners, such as with real estate. While you can opt to sell a jet on your own, AV Buyer suggests that you will get lower offers than you would with a broker. For this reason, using a broker has become the industry norm.

Instructions

    • 1

Browse listings of private jets that are currently for sale. Look for jets that are similar to what you have to sell. This lets you know what type of competition you have in the marketplace as well as how to price what you have to sell. Takes notes of the prices you find. Places to look include the Omni Jets and AV Buyer websites (see Resources).

    • 2

Review the list of prices you have taken down to determine a price for your jet. If there is a wide range of prices, look for prices that are close in number as that is most likely the fair market value of the jet.

    • 3

Gather together all of the paperwork that you have on the aircraft, such as logbooks. Buyers typically like to see a detailed history of the aircraft when it is inspected.

    • 4

Sign up with a private jet broker to get your aircraft ready to sell and out to potential buyers. Similar to real estate brokers, private jet brokers specialize in selling private jets to people that are in the market for the aircraft. The broker takes care of all aspects of the sale, including listing the jet for sale and the selling contract. Brokers you can use include The Private Jet Company and Omni Jets (see Resources). Broker fees vary.
